Building a Partnership

Institutional Partnerships and Systemic Science Education Reform: AERA Proposal 2006

Submitted on December 27, 2006 - 3:43pm

In this symposium, paper presenters and discussants examine the collaborative efforts of the Los Angeles Unified School District , two local California State Universities , and the SCALE project (an NSF- funded math/science partnership). The objectives of the symposium are to (1.) examine how actors from the various organizations and levels negotiate and reformulate their roles as a result of participation in the partnership activity and, consequently, how such changes enhance their capacities to contribute to science education reform through sustained implementation of curriculum units that foster students’ in-depth understanding of key science concepts through scientific inquiry; and (2.) analyze the extent to which the partnership activities help these units become a core part of the curriculum.

Mapping the Landscape: A snapshot of SCALE at 16 months

Submitted on April 27, 2006 - 1:18pm
This report is comprised of two parts: a text file, and organizational maps. To be used as intended, the maps should be printed in color.

This report has two primary purposes: to explain our methods and intentions for the organizational maps, and to present our preliminary analysis. Our intent here is to provide SCALE leaders with detailed information about the organization at a time of reflection and to generate productive conversation about SCALE organizational proposes, development, structures, and relationships that may lead to organizational learning.
